About Beskid Wyspowy Landscape Park

Beskid Wyspowy Landscape Park (Park Krajobrazowy Beskidu Wyspowego), established in 1993, protects a unique mountain landscape in the Beskid Wyspowy range of the Western Carpathians in southern Poland. The park is characterized by numerous isolated, rounded mountain peaks that resemble islands rising from the surrounding valleys, hence its name 'Wyspowy' meaning 'island-like.' The area spans approximately 237 square kilometers and exhibits varied topography with forested slopes, meadows, and small streams. The forests are predominantly composed of fir, beech, and spruce, supporting a diverse array of flora and fauna including lynx, deer, and numerous bird species, making it a valuable habitat for wildlife. The park’s cultural history reflects traditional mountain dwellings and pastoralism, and it invites visitors to explore both natural and cultural heritage. Outdoor enthusiasts will find extensive hiking trails traversing the undulating terrain that links small villages, lookout points, and mountain huts. Notable landmarks include Lubogoszcz peak and the traditional wooden churches scattered around the park perimeter. Quiet and less crowded than Poland’s more famous national parks, Beskid Wyspowy Landscape Park appeals to those seeking peaceful mountain hikes, wildlife viewing, and exploration of authentic rural landscapes. The park offers opportunities for mountain biking and winter snow sports as well, depending on conditions. Its proximity to the city of Kraków makes it accessible for day trips or longer stays in nearby accommodations.
